DESCRIPTION
The island was used as a leper colony from 1903 to 1957,one of the last active leper colonies in Europe. It is worth to visit Spinalonga for its Venetian fortress, one of the most important in the Mediterranean basin, the abandoned leper colony, its small pebble beaches and shallow waters.
